I love this piece! I’ve had such a hard time falling back in love with reading after undergrad - academia really draws the joy out of it. I took advice from TikTok and reread a childhood favorite (Unicorns of Balinor). I learned to play with stories again. I found out I love horror novels and short stories! Reading for information is very important but so is joy. And reconnecting with joy has helped me read more nonfiction and essays!
I have another friend who did something similar! They started reading a bunch of children's books for their library job and tried to find ones from their childhood that would spark joy (and they did!). I'm really starting to learn that connecting with your inner child and meeting their needs is so important [sobbing] <3333
